Who are we?

DRY, as it is known in the Diocese, stands for Derry and Raphoe Youth
This is the umbrella organisation that over looks and helps out with the youth work within each part of the Diocese. The main role that DRY works with now is a project called 'Sitting Ducks'. This has been started in many areas. If you check out the 'Sitting Ducks' tab in the homepage section you will find your nearest sitting ducks group and what we are up to this year.

The Diocesan Youth Projects Officer for Derry and Raphoe is Shaun McCormick
Shaun is a native of the City of Derry and graduated in 2003/04 with a Degree in Design and Communication. He started working for DRY in 2003 as a graphic designer. This quickly developed into full on youth work in the diocese which now takes the form of a project called 'Sitting Ducks'. Shaun has a passion to see young people in the Church of Ireland grow in their faith and take a confident place in the church. Other parts of Shaun's job include helping to communicate with young people around our diocese for example this website, publications such as promotional leaflets for events, information about relevant training and providing leaders with good resources so that they can deliver youth work more effectively. He also designs the 'n:vision' magazine, which many of you, (in our diocese), might have had popped through your front door.

The 'Fresh Expressions' worker for the Diocese of Derry and Raphoe is Neville Barnes
Neville is a Church Army Evangelist and has been working in the Diocese since 2000 as a youth development officer. In 2005 he began work developing fresh expresions of church for those post 25. This is finding new ways of doing church aimed at those who are older than the DRY remit. Neville has been working with youth for the past fifteen years (which makes him very very old) so this is a new venture both for him and the diocese. At the moment the role is part time (two days a week) based with All Saints Clooney in Londonderry. A group called 'Still' has formed and currently getting ready to go to Romania to do a work project in the eastern province of Arad.

What we do!

'Sitting Ducks' is the main project within DRY. We were praying for God to show us an idea that would help us encourage young people and entertain them in a Godly fashion. This morphed into the idea of 'Sitting Ducks'. These groups entail small clusters of young people from around the diocese; and grouping them with other small clusters who are within the same rural deanary (local churches). These groupings form 'Sitting Ducks' groups. At the minute there are about 11 Sitting Ducks groups on the go with 5 more being encouraged to start. Eventually we would like to see a 'Sitting Ducks' group in every parish. .

Where are we?

In our lovely offices, and yes they are amazing, we have great new youth facilities and all you guys are welcome to come and visit anytime, (9am - 5pm of course cause you can only get in when there are people there, duh!). We have a 'Sacred Space' in the youth section, which is on the top floor, available for anyone who would like a chance to chill out and find God in a relevant, new and creative way. There is a meeting space for use and a lounge area. Please contact us if you would like a look around.
